A LABOR OF LOVE! This genealogical project began when I started asking probing questions about my relatives. My focus in this genealogical journey was to incorporate primary sources such as federal census data, family Bible records, tombstone information, military records, and published city directories. PETER GOLSON I was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, about 1800. Unfortunately, during the Civil War, the Union Army led by General William Tecumseh Sherman destroyed the courthouse in Orangeburg, South Carolina, which contained primary documents on the sale and exchange of enslaved people. During the enslavement journey, the Golson enslavers moved westward from South Carolina to Georgia, then settling in Alabama. The Golson enslavers brought with them the enslaved GOLSONS. Recent scientific development in DNA research allowed me to connect the GOLSON history to our motherland, Africa. The DNA research indicated that the family originated from the African country of Angola. Forty-three percent of all Africans brought to South Carolina came from Senegal, Gambia, Angola, and Sierra Leone. To the current generation, thanks for sharing our oral history, family member obituaries, precious pictures, and family love. LOVE AND HUGS Read more
